San Quentin 2 rules: read the reels, controls and bonus

TL;DR. San Quentin 2 starts with 5 reels and 1,024 ways. One or two Bonus symbols open extra cells; three or more start Green Mile Spins. Check TOTAL COST before spinning: a €1 base stake can become a €100 feature purchase.

Start with these six controls

San Quentin 2: Death Row is Nolimit City’s second San Quentin slot, released on 24 September 2024. The subtitle matters: the first game’s terminology and screenshots do not describe every rule here. Look for Death Row on the loading screen, Green Mile Spins in the rules and the 200,000× maximum. Those three checks identify the title much more reliably than a picture of a prison.

The starting board has five reels and four regular positions on each reel. There are also locked cells above and below the regular board. You do not choose where symbols land, aim a shot or control a character. Your meaningful controls are the stake, the selected paid mode, whether to keep playing, and the Chance choice before the free spins. The illustrated controls below come from our own official public-demo session.

In the captured EUR configuration, the stake menu ranged from €0.20 to €100. The “playing for fun” label and starting balance of €10,000 identified the practice session. Another operator can present different limits or controls. A euro symbol on its own does not prove that you are using real money: read the mode label as well as the balance.

For a first practice spin, keep the ordinary game selected, set the smallest useful base stake and compare BET with TOTAL COST. Wait until the result finishes before pressing again. If you have opened the feature menu, close it and verify the mode instead of assuming that returning to the reels cancels your selection. Our bonus-cost guide explains the six priced alternatives.

A short practice sequence

  1. Open the exact Death Row demo and complete the provider’s normal age check.
  2. Read the currency, base stake and current mode.
  3. Open the paytable once; note the RTP shown for that mode.
  4. Return to the reels and make one ordinary spin.
  5. Wait for any cell opening or split animation to finish.
  6. Compare the final return with the complete cost of the round.

The spin button can also shorten reels or animations after a round has started. That does not establish that a second paid round was placed. Likewise, a fast animation is not a better-paying animation. Treat a button press as an action to verify, rather than automatically counting every press as a bet. This distinction is particularly useful if the game feels slow on a phone.

How the 1,024 ways pay

The default 1,024 ways come from four regular positions on each of five reels: 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4. A paying combination runs from the leftmost reel across adjacent reels. Matching pictures scattered anywhere on the board are not automatically a win. Start at reel one and follow the same symbol through the next reels; the paytable tells you which lengths pay.

A way is one possible route through the reels, not a separate paid spin. Suppose a symbol appears twice on reel one, once on reel two and three times on reel three. That arrangement creates 2 × 1 × 3 = 6 three-reel routes for that symbol, assuming the other rules are satisfied. The game multiplies its paytable value by the eligible ways. Several different winning combinations can contribute to the same round.

Only the highest win on a particular bet way is paid. Do not take a five-reel result, add its three-reel version and then add its four-reel version as if all three were independent rewards on that same route. The paytable already defines how those overlapping lengths are handled. This is one reason screenshots of a busy board can be difficult to price correctly by eye.

Recorded sixth demo round showing 1,792 ways and a €0.65 return
Our sixth €1 ordinary spin returned €0.65, leaving −€0.35 net for that round. Extra symbol positions and the final payment are different measurements. Tap to enlarge.

The highest-paying regular character in the displayed €1 paytable paid €0.50, €1.00 and €2.00 for three, four and five matching reels respectively, before multiplying by eligible ways. The lowest-paying cup paid €0.05, €0.10 and €0.20. These are values at the selected base stake, not fixed prizes that stay unchanged when you alter BET.

A Wild substitutes for ordinary paying symbols but not for Bonus. It is used for the highest eligible winning combination according to the rules. A Bonus symbol has its own trigger role; counting a Wild as a missing third Bonus would incorrectly award yourself a feature. When you read a replay, separate the ordinary symbol win from whatever the Bonus and cell-opening rules add.

The board can show more ways after features create extra positions. That does not mean you secretly purchased additional spins. Our third recorded round displayed 5,625 ways; the sixth displayed 1,792. Both were still single €1 ordinary rounds. Use the cost and settlement to count paid games, and the ways display to understand that round’s board.

Return is not the same as profit

A round costing €1 and returning €0.20 leaves a net loss of €0.80. The game can legitimately display a winning combination even though your balance falls over the complete round. Conversely, a €3 return on a €1 ordinary spin would be a €2 net gain. Keep the words “symbol win”, “total return” and “net result” separate when comparing screenshots or claims about a strategy.

Enhancer Cells and splits: follow the affected reel

Each reel has an Enhancer Cell above and below its regular positions. These cells begin locked. When opened, they can reveal one of the five highest-paying regular symbols, a Wild, Razor Split or xWays. The physical board can therefore use up to six rows, while splitting can increase the number of symbol positions used in the ways calculation beyond a simple rectangular view.

Landing one or two Bonus symbols in the ordinary game turns them into Wilds and opens the Enhancer Cells on their reels. A near-miss for free spins can therefore still change the current board. It is not evidence that the next paid spin is closer to a bonus. The transformation belongs to this round and needs to be read together with the final symbol arrangement.

Razor Split and Split Wild are different

Razor Split acts from an Enhancer Cell on its own reel. It splits regular symbol positions on that reel into double positions. If Razor Split appears at both the top and bottom of the same reel, the positions are split twice. Follow the reel containing the enhancer first; do not apply a generic “split everything to the left” rule from another Nolimit City game.

A Split Wild is a separate main-game symbol. It splits the other regular symbols on the same reel but does not split itself. The similar names make it easy to merge the two rules in your head. The practical reading order is: identify which special symbol appeared, find its reel, then watch which regular positions change.

There is also a Bonus interaction. If Razor Split splits a Bonus symbol on its reel, the Bonus transforms into Wilds and its row is split accordingly. A frozen image taken halfway through the animation can show the original Bonus even though the final evaluated board is different. For an accurate explanation, keep both the before and after frame or use the completed replay.

What xWays adds

An xWays symbol reveals a stack of five of the same high-paying regular symbol. When xWays appears in both active Enhancer Cells on a reel, that reel is covered by ten single Wilds. This is a specific double-enhancer interaction, not a rule that every isolated xWays produces ten Wilds.

These transformations can create many routes through a board without creating a useful match from the leftmost reel. That is why “more ways” cannot be read as “more money” in isolation. Watch the final paying symbols, the Wild substitutions and the final return. If you are learning the mechanism, one slower replay is more useful than several rapid clicks.

Green Mile Spins and the Chance decision

Three, four or five Bonus symbols trigger Green Mile Spins with one, two or three starting Jumping Wilds respectively. These are three entry conditions for the same named free-spin feature. A price list showing three Bonus-buy cards does not mean that the slot has three unrelated bonus games with separate rules.

Before the free spins begin, the player can retain the currently awarded Jumping Wilds or take a Chance draw for an additional one. The stated downside is losing five spins. The maximum number of Jumping Wilds is five. The number of wilds matters because it determines how many reels have active Enhancer Cells during the feature.

4 or 55The fourth and fifth awarded Wild start at 2×.

Once five Jumping Wilds have been reached, the Chance option can offer the maximum win against losing five spins. The delivered rules do not give us the probability of each draw, so this guide does not call it a 50/50 decision. A balanced-looking animation or two visible outcomes is not enough to establish equal chances.

There is an important mathematical qualification in this particular game: its rules state that optimal return is achieved by never choosing Collect in Chance mode. That describes the policy behind optimal theoretical RTP. It does not guarantee a better result in your next bonus, promise a profit, or mean that risking remaining spins suits every player. The RTP and strategy analysis separates that statement from short-session outcomes.

Simplified flow, top to bottom: trigger, Chance decision, free spins, settlement. Collect retains the award; at five Wilds, Chance can offer the maximum win against losing five spins. A purchased feature counts as one paid entry, including its child spins. Tap to enlarge.

During Green Mile Spins, Jumping Wilds move to random regular positions on each spin. When one lands on a reel with a Razor Split enhancer, its multiplier doubles and remains doubled for the rest of the feature. Positions on its row are doubled too. Other Jumping Wilds affected by that row split also double their multipliers and keep the increase.

The multiplier on a Jumping Wild counts as the number of Wilds at that position. It is not a blanket instruction to multiply the whole screen’s displayed win by that number again. Combining a ways calculation with an extra invented whole-win multiplier would overstate the result. Let the evaluated board and total return show how the interaction settled.

A new Bonus symbol on a reel with closed Enhancer Cells opens that reel’s cells and becomes a Jumping Wild. Two, three, four or five Bonus symbols award three, four, five or six additional spins respectively. Those extra spins belong to the existing feature. Keep watching until the feature ends and the final balance is available.

Check the complete price before every paid start

The ordinary game costs one base stake. xBet 1 costs twice the base stake and guarantees one Bonus symbol. xBet 2 costs 45 times the base stake and guarantees two. Neither statement alone guarantees the three Bonus symbols required to enter Green Mile Spins. The boosters buy a different starting condition, not an assured profitable bonus.

The three direct feature entries cost 100×, 500× and 2,500× the base stake. Lucky Draw cost 740× in the captured client. At a €0.20 base stake, those prices are €20, €100, €500 and €148. A small BET label can therefore sit beside a much larger TOTAL COST. The stake-and-cost calculator performs that multiplication without implying that the mode is affordable or profitable.

Different round costs at a twenty-cent base stake
Each tile shows an actual cost multiplier applied to €0.20. These are prices, not expected payouts. The 5 Bonus option costs €500 even though the base stake is only €0.20. Tap to enlarge.

Purchasing a feature does not multiply every symbol’s paytable value by the purchase price. Winnings remain based on the base stake. A 100× purchase at €1 needs more than €100 back to produce a positive net result. A €70 feature return would be a €30 loss, even if the celebration looks substantial.

The game’s maximum award is 200,000 times the base stake. Reaching the cap ends the feature under the No Escape rule. At a €0.20 base stake, the arithmetic cap is €40,000. That is not a forecast, a normal session target or a claim that an operator will accept every stake shown in the demo. The published maximum-win probability is discussed separately from our small observed sample.

Our desktop capture used the provider’s public demo in English with virtual EUR credits. It is not proof that a particular Finnish operator carries this version, or that a purchase feature is available in every jurisdiction. The San Quentin 2 demo page identifies the launch route and distinguishes a successful game launch from an operator account.

On a narrow screen, turn the device sideways if the board becomes too small to read. Keep the stake and spin controls visible together before you act. Browser zoom can help you read rules but may make a canvas control sit outside the visible area. Close the rules through their own control and check the selected mode again before returning to play.

If a spin appears stuck, do not repeatedly press the button to make the screen move. First wait for the current animation, then look for a connection or session message. Our attempted €100 demo feature purchase returned SessionException 1007 without a settled game result. The interface briefly showed the balance €100 lower, but the server did not confirm that outcome. We excluded it rather than calling it a loss or pretending the bonus was completed.

The ten ordinary rounds that did finish returned €1.25 from €10 staked. That record is useful for showing ways, small payments and balance accounting. It is much too short to estimate the game’s long-run RTP or discover a reliable profitable betting system. The recorded-round page shows exactly which spins were completed and what the screenshots demonstrate.

What to remember before closing the game

Keep the complete cost and the final return together. A split is a board transformation; a child free spin is part of the feature; a positive symbol payment can still be a net loss. These distinctions help you reconcile the symbols on screen with the amount returned. If you can identify the game, read TOTAL COST and follow a feature through settlement, you have a practical understanding of this slot without relying on a supposed secret timing trick.

Autoplay settings do not change the payout rules

The delivered interface guide describes autoplay by a selected number of rounds and additional stopping conditions. Its listed examples include stopping after a single win exceeds a chosen amount, before the balance falls below specified proportions, or when it rises above specified proportions. These are limits on continuing to play. They are not multipliers applied to the symbols and do not alter a losing round into a winning one.

A setting changed during a round takes effect after that round or its feature completes. This matters if you decide to stop while Green Mile Spins is running: finishing the already-started feature is different from placing another paid entry. Availability of particular autoplay options can vary by jurisdiction, so use the controls actually present in your launch. Do not assume that a screenshot from another site establishes your own menu.

The settings also distinguish music, sound effects and the spacebar shortcut. Turning off sound is useful when examining controls, but does not affect the arithmetic. If you enable spacebar-to-spin, avoid treating it as a harmless scrolling key while the game has focus. A keyboard shortcut is still an instruction to the game. Check the current mode before using it.

Read history as a completed-round record

The interface guide describes history by date and time, with total bet, total win and difference. These fields are useful because they keep the complete cost next to the return. The history panel in our session opened but did not load a usable list. Our ten-round record therefore comes from paired game responses and reconciled balances, not a claimed successful history export.

For the observed EUR configuration, the rules state that unfinished rounds are automatically closed after seven days and accumulated wins paid. The same text gives a separate 24-hour rule for cryptocurrency play. These are configuration rules, not a recovery promise from this editorial site. If a real-money session fails, retain its time and round reference and contact the operator that holds the account. Do not submit account credentials to a guide site.
